well lived friends: Sacha Strebe
Sacha and I met in 2014 when she joined the team at MyDomaine. I was working as a creative producer / photo director for Clique Brands at the time (former parent company to WhoWhatWear, Byrdie, and MyDomaine) and Sacha had just arrived from Australia with her husband Troy and son Neon, and filled an empty desk right next to my cubicle (in the days where working in an office were filled with creative energy and stress and great conversation - a time that feels so long ago since the pandemic made working from home much more of a thing - although I haven’t worked in an office in years - ok tangent over - back to Sacha). We quickly became friends, learning that we were only a few months apart in age and had been married around the same amount of time.
I admired Sacha’s style from the start - always chic, always in black or perfectly worn vintage denim, always looking effortless. Sacha is one of the most kind humans I know - her light and energy fills the room the second she walks in. She’s authentic and compassionate and has a great sense of self. I’ve had the privilege of witnessing her grow - as a friend, in her career, in her marriage, as a mother - getting to have her in my inner circle is truly a gift, and it also means that I’ve gotten to work with her next to my camera and in front of my camera over the years. These photos always give me the warm fuzzies when the subject is someone who I love dearly.
Sacha’s Silverlake apartment always feels like the chicest hug when I walk in - the concrete floors providing the minimalist perfectly imperfect foundation for the warmth and tonal texture she mixes in throughout, with pieces collected from her travels and lives lived and loved ones and friends and fellow creatives. She makes neutrals feel like the joy of color through her use of natural materials mixed with metals. Simplicity meets complexity - a home that feels just like Sacha - well lived, well loved, raw timeless beauty radiating, getting better and better with age.
